VWOC Black History Month – Notte Di Poesia

VWOC Black History Month – Notte Di Poesia

The month of February occupies a specific state of mind for many of us. February is situated almost smack dab in the middle of winter. The days are short and the nights are long. It is a time to cozy up with a warm blanket, a good book, or a long Netflix queue. The hustle and bustle of the holiday season has faded away and we naturally settle into routine and hibernation mode.

Here at The Vicenza Women of Color (VWOC), February represents an exciting time of commemoration of Black heritage. February is a celebration of our Black pioneers both past and present. It is a remembrance of all who have gone before us and paved the way to our success with their blood, determination, and dedication. We give tribute to the multitude of scientific and cultural innovations that have been made by Black people, and continue to this day.

We are proud to share this cultural holiday with our adopted Italian community. It is our hope to build meaningful lasting friendship with our neighbors and give them some insight into our heritage.  That is why in celebration of Black History Month VWOC and USAG Italy are hosting a open mic night to include spoken word, poetry and musical performers.

February 28th, 2019 / 7-9 PM / “Vicenza Time Cafè” – Contrà Mure Porta Nova, 28 (Vicenza).

On March 1-3, 2019, the Vicenza Women of Color (VWOC) and US Army Garrison Italy present “Women Warriors Part 2 – a Photographic Exhibition“, to be held in downtown Vicenza too.
