THE PROJECT
Guided tour to the Palladian Villas of Caldogno and Lugo Vicentino and visit of the cities of Marostica and Bassano del Grappa ; picnic in the Villa Godi garden, visit to the “Grappa Museum” and tasting of 5 varieties of “grappa” (the typical Italian brandy) in Bassano del Grappa.
PROGRAM
8:30 am: At the Gate 2 (Viale Della Pace) of Caserma Ederle (side street), meeting with the authorised guide and the tour-leader, and departure from Vicenza by bus. Transfer to Caldogno , with a guided tour of “Villa Caldogno”, built by Andrea Palladio in 1542. Interiors are beautifully painted by important painters. At the end of the visit , we will continue to Lugo di Vicenza, where we will visit Villa Godi Malinverni,
the first Villa of Andrea Palladio, fully and richly frescoed, with a beautiful garden adorned with statues and a large park. We will also visit the Fossil Museum , housed within the dwelling , set up by Count Piovene. The fossils have been found in the sourrounding area, and among them there are many important findings, including the the world’s longest fossil palm.
Then we will visit the nearby “Villa Piovene “, a magnificent building in the Palladian style , however, is not officially attributed to the great architect . The interiors are not visitable, we will visit the garden and the park , both very beautiful .
These 2 villas are located in a fascinating panoramic position , in a very special environment . From there, you can enjoy the view of the surrounding green countryside , the hills and the nearby Alpine foothills.
At the end of the visit, we will have our picnic in the garden of the Villa Godi Malinverni.
In the afternoon , departure for Marostica , the city famous for the chess game (and therefore for the Chess Square) for the walls embracing the Hill Pausolino , which incorporates the 2 Castles ( Upper and Lower ) .
Finally, we will go to Bassano del Grappa , a very charming town, known for its beloved Wooden Bridge, designed by Andrea Palladio.
Bassano is also famous for its ancient production of the “Grappa”, the fragrant, grape-based pomace brandy of Italian origin. We will visit the amusing and interesting Grappa Museum , housed in a seat of an old distillery and we will taste 5 varieties of “grappa” and liqueurs from Bassano. We will do a guided walking tour of the ancient and picturesque historic – centre of the town: the wooden covered Bridge, the squares, the church of St. Francis, the Upper Castle, the town-hall…
Then you will have some free-time and, in the late afternoon, return to Vicenza
